6N Silicon True Solar Grade Silicon Manufacturing Pilot

According to Greek Mythology, EOS, the goddess of the dawn, opened the gates of heaven to allow Helios, the Sun God, to ride his chariot across the sky.

6N Silicon has developed an innovative metallurgical process to produce true solar grade silicon for solar cells. 6N Silicon's metallurgical techniques have pried open the molten mantle to release the power of the sun.

Overview

The 6N process offers to fundamentally address the critical silicon shortage in the solar power industry while achieving challenging purity and manufacturing cost targets. This new approach promises to enable solar prodution capacity to keep pace with high demand and rapid industry growth. With critical funding and support from enabling organizations, the EOS Project aims to develop a high quality, consistent and affordable polysilicon that meets stringent purity requirements for all crystalline solar cells.

Commitment

New technology development requires effort and resources. The EOS Project is a multi-year funded industry collaboration to speed the development and adoption of the innovative 6N process. The primary focus of the EOS Project is the commissioning and operating of a pilot line that will refine, demonstrate and validate the 6N Silicon purification process.

The EOS Project has been facilitated through the support of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) not-for-profit corporation created by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario's Innovation Demonstration Fund.

Goals

The EOS project has been constructed with a series of challenging goals and milestones. The goals range from commission of the initial pilot line through to refinement of a stand-alone product suitable for the high demands of monocrystalline cell production. Each goal represents a milestone that is dependent upon external confirmaion.

All of the EOS goals have been developed with input from potential customers and partners. Through such consultation, these goals represent an ongoing process of refinement through ongoing consultation and material trials.
