Ian Ross
Position: Chairman of the Board

Ian Ross brings all-encompassing business knowledge and experience to his position on the Board of 6N Silicon. Mr. Ross served from 1999 until 2003 as Senior Director, Administration in the Dean's Office at the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, with responsibility for managing the support functions for Canada's internationally renowned business school.

Previously at Ortech Corporation, Mr. Ross served consecutively as Governor, President and CEO. From 1993 to 1997, he was Chairman, President and CEO of Provincial Papers Inc., where he led a turnaround of the Company from losses of $30 million per year to a profit of $20 million. He achieved equally impressive results as President and CEO of Paperboard Industries Corp., where he developed and implemented a growth strategy that led the company from $80 million in sales and $9 million in operating earnings to sales of $700 million, and operating earnings of $70 million in 4 years.

Mr. Ross is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and a graduate of the Universities of Toronto and Western Ontario. He serves as a Director of Growthworks Canadian Fund Ltd. (Chair); Pet Valu Canada Inc. (Chair); Ontario Power Generation Inc.; Menu Foods Income Fund (Chair); and RuggedCom Inc. He also was President of the Canadian Bobsled Club and Manager of the 1972 Canadian Bobsled Team at the Olympic Games in Sapporo, Japan.

 
Paolo Maccario
Position: CEO

Paolo Maccario is the CEO of 6N Silicon Inc. Paolo brings twelve years of experience as CEO/President of several leading companies along with 22 years in the metallurgical and automotive field. Most recently, Paolo was the CEO of Meridian Technologies of the Fiat Group, the largest worldwide producer of Magnesium castings. Prior to that, he was the CEO of Teksid Aluminum Foundry, a dominant US supplier of aluminum components. Paolo has extensive international experience, and has worked in Italy, Mexico, the US and Canada, and managed facilities in Asia, North America and Europe.

A native of Turin Italy, Mr. Maccario is an engineer by trade with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino. He also completed his Masters of Business Administration from Fuqua Business School at Duke University.

In addition to his role at 6N Silicon, since 2001 Mr. Maccario has been the President of Team Italia (the association of Italian Companies and their executives in Canada), and serves on the Board of Visitors of Wayne State University and on the Advisory Council of Western Engineering at the University of Western Ontario.

 
Scott Nichol
Position: Founder, President and CTO

Scott Nichol, a serial entrepreneur, is the Founder, President and CTO of 6N. Scott brings multiple start-up and scale-up experience along with specific technical expertise. Most recently, Scott was Plant Manager and Director of Research and Development at Cymat Corporation. At Cymat, Scott was the key inventor of a variety of processes for making metal foams. Prior to Cymat, he co-founded The Rand Corporation, a secondary smelter operation. As VP and General Manager at the Rand Corporation, Scott had extensive responsibility across the organization and provided specific process design and improvements. Prior to Rand Corporation, Scott was the Plant Metallurgist at Brampton Foundries. The inventor of numerous patents and patents pending, Scott's past metallurgical experience contributed directly to the invention of the innovative 6N technology. Scott has an MBA (Western) and a degree in Metallurgical Engineering.

 
David Berkowitz
Position: General Partner, Ventures West

David Berkowitz joined Ventures West in 1996 and leads the firm's Cleantech practice, investing in energy technology and advanced materials opportunities. Mr. Berkowitz has become one of the most active and best-known Cleantech investors in Canada. Mr. Berkowitz speaks regularly at industry conferences and is frequently quoted in the media. Prior to Ventures West, Mr. Berkowitz worked with Motorola New Enterprises, the venture arm of Motorola, and previous to that was a consulting engineer. Mr. Berkowitz currently serves as a director of 6N Silicon Inc., Angstrom Power Inc., PolyFuel, Inc., SiXtron and SWITCH Materials. He is past winner of Business in Vancouver's Top 40 under 40 Award.

Mr. Berkowitz's past investments include Cellex Power Products (acquired by Plug Power), Greenlight Power Technologies (acquired by Hydrogenics), TIR Systems, (acquired by Royal Philips Electronics), Serveron (acquired by BPL Global), NCompass Labs (acquired by Microsoft) and Astropower (acquired by GE). Mr. Berkowitz earned a Bachelor of Applied Science from Queen's University and a MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

 
Michael D. Ware
Position: Managing Director, Good Energies

Michael Ware has been a financial advisor to Good Energies since 2003 and has represented the company on many of its existing investments in North America.

He is the founder of Advance Capital Markets Inc., a private investment firm with a long and successful track record in the energy and power industries, and has served as a financial advisor to international energy firms, independent power companies, electric utilities as well as a number of successful entrepreneurial enterprises. Michael Ware has arranged financings for wind, solar, biofuels, biomass and geothermal projects and has guided several companies from start-up, through venture financing, and later growth stages including the IPO process. Prior to founding Advance, he was CEO of Reliance Energy Services, a subsidiary of a US$3 billion investment company.

From 1974 to 1980 Michael Ware was CEO of Energy Decisions Inc. an energy-consulting firm which served U.S. and international clients. His career began in 1973 at the Federal Energy Office, where he was part of the team that implemented the U.S. Government's response to the 1973 oil embargo.

Michael Ware serves on the Board of Directors of several public and private companies and on the Board of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE). He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Detroit and an M.A. degree from Ohio State University where he was a fellow at the Mershon Center for National Security Studies.

 
Kirk Washington
Position: Founding Partner, Yaletown Venture Partners

Kirk Washington is a mechanical engineer with two decades of technical and management experience in the energy and information technology industries. He was instrumental in the growth of two BC technology powerhouses - Ballard Power Systems and Macdonald Dettwiler.

A thirteen-year veteran of the fuel cell industry, Kirk joined Yaletown from Ballard Power Systems where, as director of corporate development, he held responsibility for strategic investments, acquisitions, partnerships, and licensing. Kirk began his career in Silicon Valley's highly competitive disk drive industry. Kirk is currently a partner with Yaletown Venture Partners, a seed stage fund based in Vancouver.
